How are carbide drill bits produced?

Carbide drill bit is a kind of equipment used in drilling engineering. A drill bit used for core drilling. The steel cylindrical drill bit body is named after the tungsten carbide welded in it. The shape of the cemented carbide cutting tool and the number, arrangement and welding angle of the drill bit are different, which are called bottom cutting edges, inner cutting edges and external cutting edges to ensure that there is a gap for water and powder discharge. The upper part of the drill bit body is threaded to connect the core pipe. There is a water tank on the side of the drill bit body and a water inlet on the bottom lip. The sink and water inlet ensure the circulation of flushing fluid to remove rock powder and cool the drill bit. In order to increase the gap when drilling into clay and shale formations, ribs are welded to the inner and outer walls of the carbide drill bit, which is called a rib-type drill bit. Needle-shaped carbide self-sharpening drill bits can be used in highly abrasive hard formations. Generally, carbide drill bits can drill into strata with rock drillability of grades II to VII; needle-shaped carbide drill bits can drill into rocks of grades VI to VIII.

During the production of carbide drill bits, many burrs will be produced on the main cutting edge of the drill bit. Such burrs are very fine. Under a microscope of 100 times magnification, the drill bit edge will be serrated. If not removed, it will easily produce burrs during drilling work. Blocks fall off, and then the cutting edge begins to fall off. This gap will aggravate wear during cutting and seriously shorten the service life of the tool. Now there is a perfect way to solve this problem, which is to passivate the drill bit. Passivating the main cutting edge makes the edge form an arc shape, reduces the edge jump of the drill bit, and can improve the surface quality of the workpiece after drilling.

Passivation treatment is also called strengthening treatment. After this process of the carbide drill bit, the front cutting edge of the carbide drill bit will form a very small R arc, which can disperse the cutting resistance and eliminate some microscopic particles on the cutting edge and ligament. Serrated, thereby enhancing the rigidity of the cutting edge.
